CORE MEMBER

our goal is to bring teens closer to christ. And Core Members are the heart and soul of the youth ministry experience. They can serve in either EDGE (middle School) or Life Teen (High School) Ministries…or both! Core members facilitate small group discussions and activities during Youth ministry Nights giving them the opportunity to develop meaningful relationships with teens throughout the year.

Other tasks for Core Members may include helping out with opening and closing prayers, performing skits, giving witness/catechetical talks to the large group.

All teaching ministries require yearly renewal of safe environment training per diocesan guidelines. find out more here.

CATECHISTS

A CATECHIST IS A PERSON OF FAITH CALLED TO HAND ON THE LIVING TRADITION AND TEACHINGS OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH. TO BE FAITHFUL TO THIS SACRED CALLING, A CATECHIST STUDIES CHURCH DOCTRINE, DEVELOPS APPROPRIATE TEACHING SKILLS AND NURTURES HIS OR HER SPIRITUAL LIFE AND PERSONAL FAITH FORMATION.

THE QUALITIES OF A CATECHIST INCLUDE:

  • A STRONG AWARENESS OF THE WORKING OF GOD’S GRACE IN THEIR LIVES AND A GROWING FAITH LIFE IN RESPONSE TO THAT GRACE

  • A PERSONAL COMMITMENT TO JESUS CHRIST, WHO IS THE CENTER OF THE MESSAGE

  • A STRONG UNDERSTANDING OF LOVE FOR THE CHURCH, EVIDENCED BY A PERSONAL COMMITMENT

  • A PERSON WHO CAN NURTURE THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY

  • AN ABILITY TO APPRECIATE DIFFERENT TYPES AND STAGES OF INDIVIDUAL GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT

  • AN ABILITY TO COMMUNICATE EFFECTIVELY WITH PERSONS TO BE CATECHIZED

  • A WILLINGNESS TO CONTINUE THEIR OWN RELIGIOUS FORMATION

BECAUSE WE STRONGLY BELIEVE IN THE TRANSFORMATIONAL POWER OF CHRIST IN THE HEARTS OF THOSE THAT SEEK HIM, WE INCORPORATE A 60/40 PRINCIPLE IN OUR CATECHESIS. 60% OF OUR FOCUS IS ON EVANGELIZATION AND 40% IS ON CATECHESIS. IT IS SO IMPORTANT TO LEARN ABOUT THE FAITH…”BUT WITHOUT LOVE, I AM ONLY A RESOUNDING GONG OR A CLANGING CYMBAL.”

AIDES

Aides work closely with catechists and is a great role for those newly interested in teaching to get their feet wet.

THE primary roles of an aide INCLUDE:

  • strong communication and readiness to assist the catechist in preparing and teaching a class.

  • A love for god’s children and ability to help them succeed in the classroom at their level.

  • even more than the catechist, who often will need to focus on the class as a whole, an aide is able to encounter the individual children and make sure they are seen, known, and loved every class.
